Tests Show that Eating Dark Chocolate is Good For You

A recently-published study on the benefits of eating dark chocolate, will cheer up chocolate-lovers everywhere. It shows that eating small amounts of dark chocolate in moderation can also decrease your chances of developing obesity and type 2 diabetes, both diseases that are relate to sugar intake.

Now experts say that not only does it taste great, but dark chocolate helps to keep you slim. Unfortunately it only works in moderation and only applies to dark chocolate. If your taste is for milk chocolate this is not such good news.

Researchers at Virginia Tech in the USA found that a type of antioxidant called flavanol, found in cocoa, can prevent excess weight gain and lower blood sugar levels in mice, even while they consumed a high fat diet. This research is expected to be transferable to humans.

Food scientist Andrew P Neilson says that cocoa is one of the most flavanol-rich foods around containing different kinds of these compounds, so Neilson’s team decided to test them for health benefits.

And the results are in: eating card chocolate may well be good for you!
