Ted Baker Employees Launch Petition

An employee at fashion group Ted Baker  has launched a petition accusing that there is a culture of "forced hugging” by the firm’s boos, also its founder, which leaves harassment unchallenged. The petition also accuses 62-year-old Ray Kelvin of inappropriate comments and behaviour.

The company, which issues a trading update on Thursday, says hugs are part of the culture, but are not compulsory. It reported that Mr Kelvin greeted many people with a hug: shareholders, investors, suppliers, partners, customers or colleagues

The petition also alleges that as well as unwelcome embraces, the brand's founder has asked young female members of staff to sit on his knee, cuddle him, or let him massage their ears and that he regularly uses sexual innuendo.

Ted Baker said that the matters raised in the petition were "at odds with the values of our business and those of our CEO”. It said it would "ensure a thorough independent investigation is carried out" into the allegations.

A further complaint is that in the past complaints have been ignored. This time they hope action will be taken.
